WE CAN Be The CHANGE
Protecting our community and building trust by reforming our criminal justice system is long overdue. We need to come together as a community to address equality of justice, mental health, addiction, and juvenile reform.
Equality of Justice
America is the land of the free and yet more people are behind bars, per capita, than anywhere else in the world. Our system has criminalized poverty, overpoliced and underserved Black and Latino communities.
GETTING MENTAL HEALTH THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES
Police officers have been left on the front lines to respond to challenges for which they have not been trained. Don will build effective partnerships with social workers and mental health and substance use counselors.
ADDICTION AND TREATMENT
It is past time to end the failed "War on Drugs." Substance use disorders are diseases, not crimes. Our criminal justice system needs to incentivize treatment while making smart investments within our community to address addiction, housing, and employment.
It is unjust to punish children and teenagers as harshly as adults. Our criminal justice system needs to develop community-based alternatives to delinquency, placements, and detention centers.
